Sky Jellies

Amongst the uplifted limestone rock islands of Palau lie dozens of marine lakes, formed in basins and sinkholes in the slowly dissolving rock. Over thousands of years, these jellyfish have travelled from the outer lagoons through subterranean fissures, tunnels and cracks, reaching these lakes. Since then, they have become isolated, evolving into distinct, incredible subspecies. Here, in Goby Lake, they’ve given up their stings in favour of a photosynthetic life: thousands of jellyfish, their bodies packed with zooxanthellae, migrating daily across the quiet water as they follow the sun.
